Abstract : We consider a generalization of degeneracy loci of morphisms between vector bundles modelled on orbit closures in representations of algebraic groups. In a preferred class of examples we gain some control over their canonical sheaf. We show how these techniques can be applied to construct Calabi-Yau and Fano varieties of dimension three and four.
