Abstract : Tensors are higher-dimensional generalizations of matrices: just like a bilinear form may be viewed as a matrix, a d-linear form may be viewed as an order-d
tensor for any d ≥ 2. The notion of rank on matrices in turn extends in several ways to different notions of rank on tensors. While the ranks of matrices and their basic
properties are for many purposes well-understood, this is considerably less the case for the ranks of tensors, even for the most studied such notions. I will discuss some
recent progress and conjectures on some of these properties.
